The film is based on true events that occurred during the reign of King Louis XV of France. In the mid-1760s, during Louis XV's rule, a ferociously aggressive giant wolf posed a threat to the Gévaudan region, with many victims being women and children. The shocking bloodshed horrified all of France, and no one knew the true appearance of the beast, with some claiming it was a manifestation of the devil. To calm the public, Louis XV appointed royal knight Fronsac (played by Samuel Le Bihan) to hunt down the monster. While staying in Gévaudan, Fronsac fell in love with the local count's daughter, Marianne (played by Émilie Dequenne), had an affair with the stunning courtesan Sylvia (played by Monica Bellucci), and met Marianne's brother Jean-François (played by Vincent Cassel). As the investigation deepened, Fronsac discovered a steel tooth on the body of a victim, and a witness claimed that someone was controlling the giant wolf. As the investigation continued, a more horrifying conspiracy was unveiled, leading to a series of bloody murders…
