Darren Shan (played by Chris Massoglia) is an excellent, sunny high school student who is well-liked at school and has a happy family, earning him the nickname "Mr. Perfect" from his friends. One day, a flyer changes the course of his life. A bizarre circus featuring all kinds of strange attractions comes to his town. Despite being forbidden by his parents and teachers, Darren sneaks off to see it with his vampire-obsessed friend Steve (played by Josh Hutcherson). The oddities and wonders they witness excite the two boys, especially when the vampire Larten Crepsley (played by John C. Reilly) and his venomous spider make their entrance. After the show, Darren steals the spider, and when Steve, enraged at not being able to become a vampire, fails to kill it, he is poisoned and faces imminent danger. To save his friend, Darren must become a half-vampire and serve as Larten's assistant, embarking on a fantastical journey... This film is adapted from the novel of the same name by Irish author Darren Shan.
