The protagonist, played by Ray Milland, is haunted by the psychological trauma of being buried alive after his father’s catalepsy led to a mistaken death. To cope, he constructs a so-called foolproof grave for the living. This scene introduces his perfect plan to his wife and doctor. Interestingly, the atmosphere of how this plan is presented and Milland's smug demeanor during the explanation mirror his own delivery of a murder plot to an assassin in "The Telephone Murder Case." The only difference: the former revolves around a perfect murder, while this one focuses on a perfect prevention against being killed and buried alive!
