After giving birth to Prince Siddhartha, Queen Maya of the Shakya Kingdom (voiced by Sayuri Yoshinaga) passes away and watches over the path of enlightenment of this extraordinary child. The real suffering from birth, aging, illness, and death leads the adult Siddhartha (voiced by Hidetaka Yoshioka) to abandon wealth, fame, and entangled desires, wandering the world in search of the ultimate answer to life. During this process, he encounters the extremely disciplined ascetic, Dipankara (voiced by Keiji Fujiwara), and the short-lived yet optimistic boy Ashvajit (voiced by Sayaka Ohara). They head to the renowned forest of asceticism, attempting to attain liberation through severe physical and mental torment. Meanwhile, the proud prince Ruri (voiced by Yoko Maki), burdened by immense humiliation and hatred due to his lineage, vows to annihilate all members of the Shakya clan, even imprisoning and torturing his own mother, who shares the same origin.
