In the desolate and scorching Gobi Canyon, at the only water source, the zebras are playing joyfully. In the shade of a gigantic rock, a mother zebra struggles to give birth to a little baby. However, to the zebras' shock, this newborn only has stripes on its front half, while the back half is pure white. The friends mockingly laugh at the poor creature named Kumba (played by Jake T. Austin), even believing it to be a symbol of misfortune. The sun continues to emit a bitter heat, the water source is dwindling, and drought is silently approaching, with death creeping closer. From its mother's lips, Kumba learns about the origins of the stripes on zebras. The weak mother is eventually taken by death, and Kumba decides to seek the legendary magical waterhole, just to become a true zebra. This naive little fellow starts on a perilous journey filled with hope...
