A down-and-out writer seeks material for his work and visits an antique shop owner named Wu Xie (played by Lu Han), who is preparing to leave the city. Before he departs, Wu Xie shares with him the strange history of his tomb-robbing family, recounting the eerie events from his first family expedition: on that occasion, their family unexpectedly acquired a special bronze artifact. Tracing its origins, they discovered the ancient kingdom of the Western Queen Mother buried in the northwest basin of China. They recruited a group of tomb raiders to explore the ruins of the ancient city and entered the tomb of the Western Queen Mother underground, uncovering the truth about King Mu of Zhou's quest for immortality from the Western Queen Mother. After hearing Wu Xie’s story, the writer finds many points of doubt. Is Wu Xie recounting his own imagination, or is the truth even more terrifying and complex?
