In the Vietnam War of 1972, South Korea was also involved. Lieutenant Choi Tae-woo (played by Kam Woo-seong) was the only survivor of his unit after they were wiped out in a battle. He often wakes up tormented by nightmares, and to escape his inner demons, he actively seeks to return to duty but is delayed in receiving approval. The deputy commander of CID issues a secret search order to Choi Tae-woo: 18 soldiers confirmed dead in the R-highland battle six months ago have sent distress signals, requesting him to lead a team to conduct a rescue at R-highland. Three days later, Choi Tae-woo leads a dozen subordinates to the entrance of R-highland, where an ancient temple once stood but was destroyed by the war. However, the stone tablet in front of the temple still stands tall: "Those who have blood on their hands shall not return..."
