In 2002, Meng Fan (played by Guan Zhibin), a senior student at a music academy, won a competition with his original song "I'm Sorry, I Love You," instantly rising to fame and winning the heart of the talented girl He Ying (played by He Meitian). A few years later, he still struggles to create a new signature piece, and his romance stagnates. One day, he comes across a place called "Abandoned Village" online, featuring an inn that tells the story of a woman named Yan Zhi from the Ming Dynasty. It's said that sleeping in that bed will allow one to hear Yan Zhi's singing in the middle of the night. Meng Fan decides to go there for inspiration and breaks up with He Ying. The innkeeper, Ouyang (played by Xue Shan), warmly welcomes him and, at Meng Fan's request, he stays in Yan Zhi's room. Meng Fan starts seeing ghostly apparitions from the Ming Dynasty and suffers from recurring nightmares. He Ying arrives at the Abandoned Village in search of Meng Fan but is heartbroken by him. Ouyang shares the story of his wife, Xiao Zhi (played by Zhang Meng), with Meng Fan. However, gradually, Meng Fan discovers that Xiao Zhi doesn't exist at all. In the end, we find out that it all revolves around that song—"I'm Sorry, I Love You."
