The story begins in a wooden cabin deep in the woods, where a lively boy and his father (voiced by Jean Reno) live completely isolated from the world, leading a primitive and harsh life. The child grows up in awe and fear of his father, with only the flowers, grass, birds, and beasts of the forest, as well as the lingering ghosts, for companionship. Until one day, the boy’s father is injured, and he is forced to drag his father's enormous body to a nearby village for help. During the treatment of his father, he meets the kind-hearted doctor's daughter (voiced by Isabelle Carré); in her, he discovers that love truly exists. Thus, he vows to find the place where his father has hidden love.
