Margaret Ford, the author of the bestselling book "The Drive of Behavior," is a psychoanalyst. To help her patient Billy, a gambler in debt and whose life is in danger, she goes undercover in a casino to understand the psychology of gamblers, where she meets Billy's creditor, Mike. Smooth-talking Mike uses sweet words to lure Margaret into his schemes. Under Mike's influence, a part of Margaret seems to be revived, reaching a certain level of "liberation." She participates in a so-called gambling scam to try to profit from it, but the carefully designed scheme goes awry: Margaret accidentally kills a police officer, and now she's in deep trouble. Later, Margaret discovers that everything was a big con, and she was tricked by Mike. To recover her losses, Margaret sets up her own trap, but Mike sees through it, forcing her to shoot him dead. Without her creditor, Margaret becomes a true gambler, using the methods Mike taught her to get what she wants.
