The old regime has collapsed, and the vast Soviet Union has become a thing of the past. Amid the tide of change, history graduate Misha Galkin (played by Ed Stoppard) discovers his talent for advertising while working and ventures into this new field, eventually being recruited by American Bob Gibbons (played by Jeffrey Tambor) to a US-Russian advertising agency. After nearly 20 years of hard work, he gradually becomes a prominent figure in the industry. After a failed advertising campaign, Misha's career and romance both hit rock bottom.
