Dorothy (Fairuza Balk) longs for everything she experienced in the Land of Oz, but unfortunately, she has lost the ruby slippers that could help her get there. Her uncle and aunt think Dorothy has gone mad and send her to a mental institution, where she meets a strange girl. With the girl's help, Dorothy manages to escape the hospital and inadvertently arrives back in the Land of Oz. Unsure of where to go, Dorothy seeks help from her old friend the Scarecrow, only to stumble into a trap set by the stone king Nome. Upon reaching the Emerald City, Dorothy is shocked to find it has become a wasteland. At this critical moment, she is attacked by the witch Glinda and her minions and is imprisoned in a dungeon.
