In 1965, the coal mining town of Iwaki in Fukushima Prefecture is now facing the enormous impact of a transformative era. Oil energy gradually becomes mainstream, while coal resources are slowly fading away from the historical stage. The residents of Iwaki, who have relied on coal mining for generations, begin to feel the hardships of life as the coal mines in the town close one after another, leading to rising unemployment. In an effort to rejuvenate the town, a plan to build a "Hawaiian Entertainment Center" is quickly formulated. The high school girl Kimiko (played by Yu Aoi), who has lived here for generations, learns about the recruitment of hula dancers for the entertainment center and goes to audition with her friends. However, the revealing costumes scare away many conservative and simple girls, leaving only Kimiko, Sanae, Hatsuko, and Kayoko. Under the guidance of the dance teacher Madoka Hirayama (played by Yasuko Matsuyuki) from Tokyo, these girls with no prior experience withstand various pressures and study hard to become excellent hula dancers as soon as possible...
