Five young people, Ash (Bruce Campbell), Shelly (Ellen Sandweiss), and others, go on a road trip together. They book a cabin located deep in the mountains as their outdoor base. After a long journey, they finally find the small wooden house. At night, they discover a creepy book and an old tape recorder left by the house's owner. The owner mentions in a recorded message that he has been researching ancient funeral rites and some spells, and the strange book is called "The Book of the Dead." According to the book, when a person dies, they are actually just in a state of sleep and are not truly dead; they can be revived through incantations. Then, a chilling spell is played from the tape recorder. Soon after, terrifying events begin to unfold.
