Chili (John Travolta) is an experienced loan shark. This time, at the behest of his boss, Ray (Dennis Farina), he travels to Hollywood to find a filmmaker named Harry (Gene Hackman). Unexpectedly, Chili, a huge film fan, has a brilliant idea after meeting Harry and decides to collaborate with him to shoot a movie titled "Mr. Lovejoy." Karen (Rene Russo) and Martin (Danny DeVito) join Chili's shooting plan, and even Harry's creditor, Cartier (Delroy Lindo), shows interest in the film. However, Cartier has his own plans; he decides to have Harry and Chili help him recover a large sum of money lost at the airport.
