Police officer Abel (played by Jean Reno) is consistently presented as brave and decisive; his methods towards criminals are nearly ruthless, and he never shows mercy. However, within this tough exterior lies a long-buried emotional wound—19 years ago, his Japanese girlfriend Miko disappeared without a trace, and Abel has pined for her ever since, never moving on. One day, news arrives that Miko has passed away, and Abel becomes the sole heir of all her estate, with the only requirement in the will being to care for their daughter Yumi until she comes of age. Before Abel can fully process the shock, he is confronted by a loud, bizarrely dressed, and disrespectful "little delinquent," who turns out to be Yumi (played by Ryuhei Matsuda). Abel inadvertently discovers that the circumstances surrounding Miko's death are suspicious, and to his astonishment, Yumi has a staggering $200 million in her bank account, while she is also being secretly followed by the underworld. Amidst the growing uncertainties, Abel begins to investigate the truth.
