Last year, director Peter Greenaway attended HKIFF in Hong Kong, and like in the past, he promoted "Nightwatching". "Nightwatching" is already relatively easy to understand compared to "A Life in Suitcases" and the series "The Tulse Luper Suitcases". In recent years, Peter Greenaway has spent more time on stage, and this film focuses on Rembrandt and the process of creating his oil painting "The Night Watch," showcasing incredible beauty and filming techniques that are perfectly immersive. This time again features Rembrandt; how could it be missed? "Rembrandt's J'Accuse" is an essayistic documentary, meaning a drama-documentary. Once again, the director catches the audience off guard. Some viewers left (it seems like this always happens with his films; some go fishing, some can't handle it...), and although I didn't expect this film to take this form, it offers ten surprises and many amusing moments. The director conducts a thorough examination of the oil painting "The Night Watch," humorously and critically commenting on the ignorance of current visual arts knowledge. Almost all thirty-four figures in the painting are analyzed and researched in detail. The height of the characters, background, hands, and even bodily organs are discussed, which is quite entertaining to some extent. The music, like his other works, is still stunning. This time, it is composed by Giovanni Sollima and Marco Robino. For the first time on screen, Peter Greenaway is seen explaining in a professor-like manner multiple times. It is definitely worth watching.
