In the previous episode, a horrific massacre involving a father and son resulted in Lisbeth Salander (played by Noomi Rapace) being shot in the head and nearly dying, while Alexander Zalachenko (played by Georgi Staykov) suffered severe injuries from an axe attack. The father and daughter are in the Sahlgrenska Hospital in Gothenburg, while Lundin Neiderman (played by Micke Spreitz) is still on the run. Alexander, a defector from the Soviet military intelligence to Sweden 30 years ago, holds a sensitive identity that makes the government wary, and the political scandal surrounding Lisbeth causes unease among politicians. Soon, Alexander is killed by an assassin sent by the Swedish Security Service, and Lisbeth faces multiple murder charges. In an effort to save Lisbeth and expose government corruption, Millennium magazine journalist Mikael Blomkvist (played by Michael Nyqvist) works tirelessly to gather evidence. However, the deeper the investigation goes, the greater the danger becomes... This film is adapted from the original work by Swedish author Stieg Larsson and is the final installment of the "Millennium Trilogy."
