In the 1970s, Rodriguez released two albums, "Cold Fact" and "Coming From Reality," which sold over 500,000 copies in South Africa and garnered fame comparable to that of The Rolling Stones. However, unlike other famous American singers, South African fans had no information about Rodriguez other than a single unclear photo on the album cover, and after the two albums, he seemed to disappear. Furthermore, Rodriguez was unaware of his success in South Africa; he was living a completely different life in the U.S., lacking fame, with poor album sales, abandoned by his record label, and at one point doing manual labor roofing houses. The search for Sugar Man began when Stephen, a record store owner in Cape Town, and music journalist Craig heard rumors about Rodriguez's bizarre suicide on stage, leading to the unfolding of a mysterious legendary story…
