In 1973, humans accidentally discovered that bacteria, thriving in complete darkness next to deep-sea hydrothermal vents and symbiotic with tube worms, included some of the oldest species known to us, suggesting that this could be a site of life's origins in ancient times. This film will take us, under the guidance of the submersibles Nautilus and Hydra, deep into isolated areas of the ocean to explore the origins of life in ancient times. The submersible will first lead us to dive 600 meters deep into a world that is perpetually dark, where we will observe the planet's largest predator, the sperm whale, as it hunts the largest invertebrate on Earth, the giant squid, in a rare and thrilling feeding process. Next, the submersible will dive over 1500 meters to the ocean floor, confronting the frigid temperatures near freezing and pressures exceeding 218 kilograms per square centimeter on the submersible's surface, leading us into the harsh environment of the hydrothermal vent. We will witness the stunning scenes of superheated seawater gushing from cracks in the ocean floor and the ecology of large tube worms, hydrothermal crabs, and more, challenging traditional perceptions—spectacles never before seen by humanity. Finally, the submersible will encounter a sperm whale hunting a school of giant squids. Amidst a thrilling, chaotic collision, the captain will activate an automatic rapid ascent, concluding this exciting deep-sea expedition.
