California, Venice Beach, Dogtown, rugged and dry streets, this is an all too familiar daily scene for those who lived there in the 1970s. Due to the worst drought in history, all the pools in the parks turned into dry pits, but it was these desiccated pools that inspired a group of surfing-loving boys (portrayed by Stacey Peralta, Tony Alva, Jay Adams, and others), allowing surfing techniques to evolve onto the walls of the pools, equipping skateboards with safer and more reliable polyurethane wheels. Thus, the important component of extreme sports—vert skateboarding—was born. The boys called themselves the "Z-Boys". From the crashing waves to abandoned docks and urban concrete wastelands, their dream of becoming professional surfers gradually morphed into the dream of becoming professional skateboarders. Yet the one thing that remained unchanged was their attitude of contempt for danger and death. The hardships of life forged their resilient survival mindset, and the small polyurethane wheels gradually surged into a wave of freewheeling sports aesthetics. Traditional skateboarders were at a loss as to how to understand them, but the girls' screams were generously directed at them.
