Xiao Tianding (played by Shih Hsiao-lung) lost his parents at a young age, left with no one to rely on, and wandered the streets. One day, he was beaten badly for stealing incense oil from a temple. Fortunately, the owner of a theater troupe (played by Ko Shiu-liang) happened to pass by and saved him. Xiao Tianding was once an actor in his troupe, and upon their reunion, the owner took him in as a disciple, giving Xiao Tianding a home.
Years passed in the blink of an eye, and Tianding (played by Lin Chi-ling) grew into a strong man. In fact, the true identity of the troupe owner is a subordinate of anti-Japanese hero Lin Shao-mao, who was killed by rampant Japanese forces along with the troupe owner. Tianding vowed to avenge his master. One day, Tianding rescued a girl named A-ye (played by Jan Hsiao-nan) from the Japanese, which angered them. Left with no choice, Tianding had to go on the run with his friend Hong Gui (played by Luo Shifeng).
