John (played by Channing Tatum), a U.S. Army Special Forces soldier, unexpectedly meets a vacationing college student named Savannah (played by Amanda Seyfried) while on holiday in his hometown, and the two quickly fall in love. After John comes of age, he has little communication with his father, who is obsessed with collecting coins, but Savannah is very friendly towards John’s father. Their vacation soon comes to an end, and as they part, John promises Savannah that he will finish his service in a year and they will never be apart again. Stationed overseas, John can only express his feelings to Savannah through letters, filled with sweet words as they both dream of a future together. After the 9/11 attacks, John is forced to extend his service, putting their relationship in crisis, but they quickly reconcile. After returning to duty, John goes a long time without receiving a letter from Savannah, only to ultimately receive her breakup letter. Just as he is grappling with the heartache, John is unfortunately injured, and in the moment before he loses consciousness, the last thought he has is of his father's coin collection. Years later, when John meets Savannah again, he uncovers the secret behind that breakup letter...This film is adapted from the 11th novel "The Longest Ride" by Nicholas Sparks, the "King of Pure Love Novels."
