The descendant of the Yang family generals, the Green-Faced Beast Yang Zhi (played by Lv Liangwei), laments having a body full of martial arts yet being born at the wrong time, unable to serve the country. Due to his inability to curry favor, he is expelled from the Imperial Forest Army by Gao Qiao and is demoted from Dongjing Bianliang to serve under Liang Zhongshu (played by Ma Jingwu) in Daming Prefecture. While escorting the Flower and Stone Cash during his mission, he encounters a series of mishaps that drastically change his fate, and in anger, Liang Zhongshu demotes him to the kitchen camp. Yang Zhi, feeling extremely dejected, maintains his pride and character as a soldier even in the lows of life, during which he meets the beautiful woman Xiang Sao (played by Meng Guangmei). However, Xiang Sao can only be considered a minor embellishment, as cruel fate awaits ahead. The leader of the Bull Head Gang, Niu Er (played by Ji Chunhua), appreciates Yang Zhi's martial arts and initially wants to recruit him, later becoming Yang Zhi's greatest enemy. He then meets the leader of Liangshan, King of the Heavenly Kings Chao Gai, where a significant choice faces him as the descendant of a renowned minister... This film is adapted from a story in one of the Four Great Classical Novels, "Water Margin."
