The movie is adapted from the 2004 published biography "Soul Surfer: A True Story of Faith, Family, and Fighting to Get Back on the Board." Growing up on Kauai, Hawaii, Bethany Hamilton (played by AnnaSophia Robb) is a natural surfing prodigy who displayed exceptional talent in surfing from an early age. She and her friend Alana (played by Lorraine Nicholson) compete in national surfing competitions and achieve impressive results. However, one morning when she was 13, while surfing, she was attacked by a 14-foot tiger shark, which bit off her left arm. In an instant, her life and future were shattered. As everyone prepared to find her a new path, she decided to return to competitive surfing with her incomplete body. With the support of good friends Tom, Cheri, and Sara, she stood up again with her incredible determination, back on the surfboard and riding the waves.
