On a night filled with madness and slight sadness, a couple suffers the tragic loss of their beloved young son Nick. This event deals them a heavy blow and pushes their already troubled marriage to the brink of collapse. The wife (Charlotte Gainsbourg) remains deeply immersed in her grief, while her husband, a psychotherapist (Willem Dafoe), attempts to heal their broken relationship and helps her forget the past through psychological counseling. Ultimately, they decide to go to their cabin in the Eden forest to alleviate their emotions. A year prior, the woman had written a paper on Christ and anti-feminism in this location with Nick, and the memories of the past make her anxious and agitated. The psychological treatment occurs amidst this restless and tense atmosphere, and instead of finding the long-desired light, the couple descends into an even deeper darkness... This film won the Best Actress Award at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival (Charlotte Gainsbourg).
