Jewish youth Guido (Roberto Benigni) encounters the beautiful teacher Dora (Nicolleta Braschi), and he politely bows to her saying, "Good morning! Princess!" After going through many amusing twists and turns, they happily live together. However, the good times are short-lived. Under the fascist regime, Guido and his son are forcibly sent to a Jewish concentration camp. Although Dora has no Jewish blood, she resolutely accompanies them and is held separately in another camp. The clever and optimistic Guido tricks his son into thinking it is just a game, with the grand prize being a big tank, allowing his son to live joyfully and innocently amidst the Nazi shadow. Despite the harsh and lonely life in the concentration camp, Guido still brings joy to others, even taking the opportunity to greet his wife over the Nazi broadcast: "Good morning! Princess!" As the fascist regime nears collapse, the Nazi concentration camp is about to undergo its final purge. How will Guido's game for his son end? Will their family safely survive this dark era?
