Girl Veronica (Richardson) discovers she is pregnant and can only hit the road with her "ex" friend Bailey (Ferreira), seeking a legal abortion: Veronica's boyfriend is weak, and she herself doesn't want to be a mother at such a young age, as it would affect her Ivy League dreams. In Missouri, where she lives, minors must have parental consent to get an abortion, and her parents do not agree. Veronica decides to travel 900 miles to New Mexico for the abortion and then return home.
