A Cat on the Highway is derived from a saying that describes things that are destined not to last long. Giovanni (played by Antonio Albanese) is the typical intellectual, reading books and newspapers every day, seriously contemplating life, and always believing that true trust can exist between people, allowing for mutual integration. Monica (played by Paola Cortellesi), on the other hand, is a supermarket cashier who deals with customers of different skin colors and ethnicities every day, often feeling overwhelmed and very pessimistic about communication between people. God played a little joke; these two people, who seem worlds apart, have children who are brought together by fate, and upon learning of this romance, both genuinely hope it will end soon, like the cat on the highway.
