Buck Ferguson (played by Josh Brolin) is a renowned whitetail deer hunter. He arranges a special episode for his hunting show, planning a weekend trip to reconnect with his increasingly estranged son, Jaden (played by Montana Jordan), and accompanying them is his trusted yet unlucky friend and cameraman, Don (played by Danny McBride).
