Max (Vincent Cassel) is about to get married to his girlfriend when he unexpectedly sees his missing ex-girlfriend Lisa (Monica Bellucci). Memories flash back: they were once a sweet couple, but their relationship was marred by a letter that was never delivered to Lisa—it was a regret brought about by Lisa's neighbor Alice (Romane Bohringer), who has long had a crush on Max. The letter that Max asked her to give to Lisa has been sitting on her hands all along. Alice now lives in Lisa's old apartment. When Max enters the apartment looking for Lisa, he instead encounters Alice. The two become involved, and Alice finally gets the man she has dreamed of, setting traps that cause Max and Lisa to miss each other repeatedly, so they never meet. The tragedy for Lisa, however, is far from over. After winning Max's love, Alice still chooses to withdraw. When she sees Max embracing his fiancée at the airport, a complex smile crosses her face.
