The highly talented graduate of the University of Tokyo, Iida Kunihiko (played by Yusaku Matsuda), was once a war correspondent who has traveled through countless battlefields in just a few years, capturing a significant number of photographs. After leaving the newspaper, Iida makes a living as a translator. The emptiness of his spirit and the trauma he suffered on the battlefield in his early years make it impossible for him to endure a mindless, comfortable life. Although he meets OL Harada Reiko (played by Mami Kobayashi), who also loves classical music, Iida can never open his heart. Iida, planning a sensational event, first attacks the police and the gangsters, stealing handguns and thirty million yen. He then teams up with the waiter Sanada (played by Takeshi Kaga) whom he met at a class reunion to plot a robbery of four hundred million yen from the Toyo Bank. Meanwhile, the lone officer Kashiwagi (played by Hidetaka Muromachi), due to a case of shooting a police officer, has locked his suspicion on Iida... Based on the novel of the same name by Haruhiko Ōyabu.
