A couple living a mundane life, Ray Winkler (Woody Allen) and Frenchy (Tracey Ullman), find themselves in quite a predicament. Ray is a dishwasher with a criminal record, while Frenchy is a manicurist. However, their peaceful and stable life is disrupted by Ray's plan to rob a bank. Despite his wife's strong objections, Ray is determined to go through with it. He recruits three foolish accomplices for the heist and devises various schemes to drag Frenchy into the plan. But the dream of getting rich overnight doesn't go as smoothly as expected, leading to a hilariously chaotic bank robbery.
This comedy film, "The Amateur Thief," is written, directed, and starred by the renowned American filmmaker Woody Allen, continuing his tradition of clever, satirical humor. The series of comical mishaps paired with witty local dialogue makes this humorous "insider joke" irresistible. The female lead, Tracey Ullman, received a nomination for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy at the 58th Golden Globe Awards in 2001 for her performance.
