The documentary "The Dawn Wall" has released its first trailer, telling the inspiring story of two men who free-climbed the "most difficult climbing wall in the world," the Dawn Wall, with exhilarating footage. In January 2015, Tommy Caldwell and Kevin Jorgeson began their ascent, living on the sheer vertical cliff for weeks, drawing global media frenzy. For Caldwell, this was not just a climb, but an opportunity to prove his strength: at 22, he was kidnapped by Kyrgyz rebels and soon after lost his index finger in an accident. The two spent nearly 20 days successfully summiting El Capitan in Yosemite National Park, California, setting a world record for free-climbing the Dawn Wall.
Prior to this, they spent six years planning their route, attempting the climb twice in 2010 and 2011, both ending in failure. The Dawn Wall was first conquered in 1958, and there are currently about 100 climbing routes, but no one had ever free-climbed to the top. After the duo's success, Obama congratulated them, saying, "Anything is possible."
The film is directed by Josh Lowell and Peter Mortimer and will premiere at South by Southwest Film Festival on March 11.
