Single man Barry Egan (Adam Sandler) runs a small factory and lives under the pressure of seven sisters, often crying and venting his emotions through violence, breaking things. One day, he picks up a discarded small piano on the road and meets a woman. It turns out this woman is Lena Leonard (Emily Watson), whom one of his sisters wanted to introduce to him; they agree to have dinner together another day. Feeling lonely and bored at night, Barry calls a sex hotline and has a great conversation with the woman on the line, but he also gets into trouble: after being refused a loan for rent, the woman begins to harass him with calls. After Barry's first date with Lena, they hit it off. However, when Barry returns home, he is robbed by a group sent by Dean (Philip Seymour Hoffman), who runs the sex hotline. While Lena is on a business trip in Hawaii, Barry surprisingly goes to Hawaii to find her, and they establish a romantic relationship. When that group crashes into Barry's car again, Lena is injured, and Barry finally explodes...
