The story takes place during the War of Resistance. The young girl Tang Qi (played by Lin Dai) loses her father, who sacrifices himself heroically to defend the motherland, and her mother, who succumbs to a serious illness. Left alone and destitute, Tang Qi seeks refuge with her aunt living in Tianjin. There, she meets a man named Xing Ya. As they get to know each other, they discover they are both orphans, and their similar life experiences bring their lonely hearts together, sparking a romance.
