Directed by the great Zhang Che, this Shaolin film elevated the kung fu genre to new heights in the 1970s. The film primarily recounts the deeds of the three prominent disciples of Shaolin: Hong Xiguan (played by Chan Kwan-tai), Fang Shiyu (played by Fu Sheng), and Hu Huiqian (played by Chi Kuan-chun). The story unfolds in the late Ming Dynasty, when the Ming general Wu Sangui betrays the nation and surrenders to the Qing. Qing officials recruit traitors and gather various outlaws from Wudang and Emei schools, colluding with local bullies to wipe out the Shaolin disciples, putting Hong, Fang, and Hu in grave danger...
