Rich heir Zhuo Ming (Chen Hou) is not interested in taking over his father's business. While studying in Germany, he independently decides to pursue music. After returning to China, his father sees that the decision is already made and reluctantly consents. In Germany, he and his like-minded old friend Zhi Xiong (Zhang Chong) agree to jointly open a record company in the future to introduce Chinese music to the world.
Zhuo Ming's father did not expect his son to betray him in marriage as well: Zhuo Ming falls deeply in love with nightclub singer Xue Ling (Hu Yan Ni) after several encounters, intending to marry her, while the socially appropriate young lady he initially had in mind is merely regarded by Zhuo Ming as a sister. The two fathers have a big quarrel and sever their relationship, but Zhuo Ming's actions end up changing Xue Ling's grandmother's impression of him, leading to their marriage.
After marriage, Zhuo Ming keeps his promise and treats Xue Ling as a treasure. However, Xue Ling resigns from her job to maintain Zhuo Ming's family's face, which burdens Zhuo Ming's life even more. Although he has no complaints, the daily hardships cause his old illness to resurface, leading to blindness. Xue Ling goes to plead with Zhuo Ming's father, but only receives cold words, deciding to heal Zhuo Ming in her own way. Returning to the nightclub, she meets the record company manager who appreciates her, who is none other than Zhi Xiong. Meanwhile, Zhuo Ming, who stays at home all day, feels increasingly inferior.
