At the end of the Tang Dynasty, Huang Chao’s rebel army attacks the Tang capital of Chang'an. Jin Wang Li Keyong (played by Gu Feng) is tasked with eliminating the rebels and reclaiming the capital. At that time, Li Keyong, a member of the Shatuo tribe, has an army of 100,000, with numerous fierce generals under his command, including the Thirteen Protectors formed by his adopted sons, known for their combat skills, bringing him great prestige. Zhu Wen, the military governor of Bianliang, visits to observe the battle, coinciding with a challenge issued by Meng Juehai, the foremost warrior under Huang Chao. The Thirteenth Protector, Li Cunxiao (played by Jiang David), steps onto the field to confront the enemy and captures Meng Juehai alive. However, Li Cunxiao is proud and arrogant, and Zhu Wen feels humiliated during the victory banquet, harboring resentment. Four Protector Li Cunxin, jealous of Li Cunxiao's achievements, suggests a plan to send a small force straight into Chang'an to take Huang Chao's head. Li Keyong orders nine Protectors to assassinate him, led by Li Cunxiao. The nine infiltrate Chang'an at night, and after several bloody battles, manage to wound Huang Chao at Wufeng Tower. Unfortunately, they are outnumbered by enemy soldiers and must take refuge at the home of a common girl, Yan. During this time, Li Cunxin and the Twelfth Protector, Tang Junli, plot against Li Cunxiao, leading to Li Cunxiao being expelled from the group. In their moment of desperation, Li Cunxin and Tang Junli are seduced by Zhu Wen, who lures Li Keyong into Bianliang. Zhu Wen gets Li Keyong and the Eleventh Protector, Shi Jingsi (played by Di Long), drunk before launching a surprise attack. Shi Jingsi, in a desperate attempt to protect Li Keyong, sacrifices himself. Just when all seems lost, Li Cunxiao and the Black Crow Soldiers arrive. Li Cunxin and Tang Junli, after failing one scheme, devise another, stealing Li Keyong's personal sword and falsely proclaiming a decree, intending to bring about Li Cunxiao's demise...
