Peter (Steve Zahn) grew up with his father as the host of an animal show called Strange Wilderness, known for his steady and humorous style that won many fans. However, everything changed when Peter took over the show; first, the time slot moved from prime time to 3 AM, and rival Pierce's group began to create problems. Viewers constantly complained about the nonsensical bloody violence inserted into the show and the illogical commentary. To make matters worse, Peter's team was a collection of oddballs: junkie cameraman Junior (Justin Long), sarcastic fat guy Cook (Jonah Hill), and others could only produce a show suitable for airing on Mars. As Peter’s show faced cancellation, an old friend of his father, Bill, provided a lead about a South American Bigfoot, hoping that discovering it could save Strange Wilderness.
