Rose (played by Amy Adams), a single mother making a living by cleaning houses, was once a popular cheerleader in high school. Although her ex-boyfriend Mike (played by Steve Zahn) has married someone else, Rose continues to maintain a romantic relationship with him as he is now a police officer. After her eight-year-old son Oscar (played by Jason Spevack) is expelled from school for misbehavior, Rose decides to enroll him in a private school. Mike informs Rose that crime scene cleaning can be profitable, leading Rose to team up with her unemployed sister Nora (played by Emily Blunt) to start "Sunshine Cleaning," a company specializing in cleaning crime and accident scenes, while their father Joe (played by Alan Arkin) temporarily takes care of Oscar. However, shortly after the company starts, an error by Nora causes irreparable damage, leading to a fallout between the two sisters... The film was nominated for the Jury Prize at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival.
