In the Middle Ages, a mysterious death occurs involving a cleric at a monastery. The bishop of the monastery invites the renowned cleric William von Baskerville (played by Sean Connery) and his assistant Novize Adson von Melk (played by Christian Slater) from afar to investigate the case. During the investigation, William discovers that he is facing numerous invisible obstacles and warnings from others, and he senses that there are many conspiracies behind this monastery. Even more frightening, several people within the monastery also meet untimely deaths, making the case increasingly perplexing. As William digs deeper into the investigation, he gets closer to the truth... This film is adapted from the novel of the same name by Italian author Umberto Eco and won the Best Actor and Best Makeup awards at the 1988 British Academy Awards.
