Yagyu Genosuke (played by Sawamura Kunitaro) becomes a live-in son-in-law at a dojo, where his brother To Masaru (played by Bandō Kiyotaro) gifts him the family's heirloom monkey pot as a "dowry." Neither Genosuke nor To Masaru knows that this seemingly shabby and unremarkable monkey pot hides the secret of a million ryo. After learning the truth, To Masaru quickly sends someone to demand it back, while the suspicious Genosuke gradually uncovers the details behind the situation. However, the monkey pot is sold by his wife to a scrap collector. The monkey pot eventually ends up in the hands of an orphan named Anji (played by So Harutaro), who was taken in by an archery range after his father was killed by gangsters. He receives care from the lady owner, Ato (played by Kiyomitsu), and the one-armed, one-eyed swordsman Dan'ya Zashe'n (played by Okuchi Denjiro). While searching for the monkey pot, Genosuke encounters a beautiful girl at the archery range and starts lingering there under the pretext of looking for the monkey pot, eventually becoming friends with Dan'ya Zashe'n...
