A premier work by 1930s superstar Errol Flynn, representing the highest standard of adventure action entertainment films of the time. The story follows the persecution of Robin Hood during the reign of King Richard the Lionheart in 12th century England, as he turns to a life of crime to steal from the rich and give to the poor, becoming a revered outlaw. A group of outlaws led by Little John also joins him. Meanwhile, the evil prince relentlessly pursues Robin Hood, and a life-and-death struggle ensues over the safety of the beautiful Maid Marian. Directors Michael Curtiz and William Keighley make excellent use of Hollywood's production support to give the film a grand scale, with notably impressive action sequences. The main cast includes outstanding performances by Olivia de Havilland, Basil Rathbone, and Claude Rains.
