During the American Civil War, white officer Robert Gould Shaw (played by Matthew Broderick) is wounded in battle and is discovered by a grave digger named John Rawlins (played by Morgan Freeman), who takes him to a field hospital. While recovering in Boston, Robert volunteers to command the all-Black 54th Massachusetts Regiment. Despite facing severe racial discrimination, mockery from white peers, and skepticism from new recruit Trip (played by Denzel Washington), he resolutely trains a group of escaped Southern slaves into a disciplined fighting force. Under his leadership, the Black regiment 54th Massachusetts writes a glorious chapter in the battle of Charleston in the South. However, Robert himself falls heroically in the heat of battle. Directed by the renowned Oscar-winning director Edward Zwick, the epic war film "Glory" is based on true events from the American Civil War. The film is notable for its shocking depictions of battle scenes and its heart-wrenching portrayal of the suffering endured by Black soldiers, winning several awards at the 62nd Academy Awards in 1990, including Best Supporting Actor, Best Cinematography, and Best Sound. The then-unknown Denzel Washington also won the Best Supporting Actor at the 47th Golden Globe Awards for his performance in this film.
