Quisa (played by Guy Grosso) has devoted his entire life to the police force, a profession he deeply loves. However, even the most capable police officer must face the day of retirement. Every day at home after retirement is a torment for Quisa; he has become reclusive, has an explosive temper, and is on the brink of depression. At this critical moment, Quisa's old friends, Herbert (played by Louis de Funès) and Tolliver (played by Michel Modo), appear before him, bringing a mixed message — their old buddy Focas (played by Jean Lefebvre) has lost his memory due to an accident, and only they, his brothers who faced life and death together, can help him recall the past. This news instantly revitalizes Quisa, and the group sets off for the sanatorium where Focas is located.
