Lyme disease is transmitted by deer ticks. Although it initially presents as common rashes and itching, over time, patients can develop systemic arthritis and various neurological symptoms. It can be considered a severely debilitating and incurable disease, requiring significant financial and time investment for lifelong treatment. The girl Adrian (Emma Roberts) has the misfortune of having her father Charlie (Timothy Hutton) suffer from Lyme disease, plunging their already struggling family into financial turmoil. In desperation, the wife Melissa (Cynthia Nixon) takes a job with their neighbor Mitch (Alec Baldwin), only to find herself tangled in a complicated mess. At this critical juncture, Adrian unexpectedly falls in love with Mitch's son Scott (Rory Culkin).
