Reality hits hard for Casey (Jennifer Connelly), who is abandoned by her husband. Each day, only under the influence of alcohol can she numb the torment of her inner pain. As Casey declines into deeper despair, indifferent to herself and everything around her, one day she receives a notice from the local sheriff that her house is about to be auctioned due to unpaid taxes, of which she was completely unaware. Emil (Ben Kingsley) and his family become the new owners of Casey's house, and as they prepare to move in with hopes for a bright future, they are confronted by an enraged and neurotic woman. One person fights to protect their family, while another fights to protect their memories. When these two individuals stand at opposite ends, good and evil become impossible to distinguish, and it is clear that tragedy is imminent.
