Hutter (Gustav von Wangenheim) is an employee of a real estate company in Bremen, sent by the company to a castle to negotiate a property deal with Count Nosferatu (Max Schreck). However, when staying at an inn near the castle, people react strangely upon learning his destination. Upon arriving at the castle, he meets the gaunt and eccentric Count Nosferatu and learns that he has a nocturnal lifestyle. Hutter begins to suspect his identity and ultimately discovers that he is the legendary vampire. Hutter escapes the castle, but the Count heads straight to the house he has purchased in Bremen. After returning home, Hutter learns that the vampire Count has arrived and is the one causing the plague to ravage the small town. Together with his wife Ellen (Greta Schröder), he begins to find a way to eliminate the vampire Count...
