Haruna Reiko (played by Miki Nakatani) is a female writer who has won the Akutagawa Prize. Due to facing a creative bottleneck and a depletion of inspiration, her health begins to deteriorate. Editor Kijima (played by Hidetoshi Nishijima) persuades Reiko to move to an old Western-style house in the suburbs, which is surrounded by forests and swamps. In front of this house is a dilapidated, vacant building. One night, Reiko sees a man moving an unknown object wrapped in cloth into the house. Later, she learns that the man is a university professor named Yoshikawa Makoto (played by Etsushi Toyokawa) and that the vacant house is a research institute of Sagami University. The object is a millennium-old female corpse retrieved from the swamp. But Reiko's nightmares begin, and various strange occurrences, including the secrets of the research institute, the peculiarities of the room, Yoshikawa's behavior, and her prior physical discomfort, all become intertwined with the corpse.
